Deane Center series to feature bluegrass band The Grass is Dead
WELLSBORO – The Grass is Dead will be the featured band at the Gallery Music Series concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 in the Coolidge Theatre at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts, 104 Main St.
This south Florida band has been rearranging Grateful Dead songs in their own bluegrass style since forming in 1998. In Wellsboro, they will perform Grateful Dead tunes with a bluegrass twist, as well as standard and original bluegrass music.
With a few new members, the band is reintroducing itself to its fans, new and old. Performing in Wellsboro will be Billy Gilmore on banjo, mandolin, fiddle and pedal steel; Jack Schueler on guitar; Brian Drysdale on percussion; and Nico Swarley on electric bass. All band members sing. Drew Matulich, who plays mandolin, will be rejoining the band on tour in Asheville, North Carolina.
Because this series is BYOB, concertgoers are permitted to bring their own favorite beverages and snacks. To reserve a table for four or more or tickets, call 570-724-6220.
