Lyco Taiko to hold drumming workshop at Children’s Museum
BLOOMSBURG – Lyco Taiko will hold a workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Children’s Museum, 2 W. Seventh St.
In this workshop, members of Lyco Taiko will share their knowledge of Tokyo-style “taiko,” a flashy take on traditional festival drumming. Participants will not only learn basic technique and rhythm, but also gain valuable cultural knowledge of the music being learned.
Taiko is a modern performance style that draws on Japanese festival drumming traditions. Combining drumming and movement, taiko has gained international popularity as an exciting art form.
Lyco Taiko was founded by Muncy drummer Urie Kline in January 2015; Lyco Taiko is the Susquehanna Valley’s first taiko school and performance troupe. As an outreach program, Lyco Taiko has conducted workshops at the Uptown Music Collective, Susquehanna Health, the Heiter Community Center in Lewisburg and the Booth Theatre in Danville. The ensemble has performed at Pennsylvania taiko festivals, in Williamsport Civic Chorus productions and at local venues throughout the Valley.
