Campus Theatre makes upgrades, plans reopening
LEWISBURG — With the venue closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Campus Theatre staff is using the time to make some improvements and repairs to the 79-year-old downtown Lewisburg landmark.
“We’re excited to be working on some improvements that will only serve to enhance your movie-going experience,” said Scotta Magnelli, Campus Theatre executive director. “We are refurbishing the original ticket kiosk to put it back in use, installing a point of sale software system to make purchases more efficient, and we’re establishing an entrance exclusively for our members.” The upgrades will include plexiglass barriers at the concession stand, hand sanitizer stations and social distancing markings to ensure a safe, sanitized environment. “All of the work is being completed with great care and respect to the Art Deco style and charm of this beautiful venue,” added Magnelli.
In addition to the improvement projects, Bucknell University, the building’s owner, is completing repairs to the attic space between the ceiling and the roof. Leaks in the roof caused some damage, including some mold that was contained to the attic space and not found in the public space. The university has contracted with a recognized restoration service company to complete the project. The theatre expect to reopen in August.
