Charges dismissed against ex-teacher, coach

The case against a former area teacher and coach accused of burglarizing a Lycoming County residence has been dismissed because he was denied a speedy trial.

Frank L. Girardi, 52, faced charges of burglarly, theft, criminal trespass, receiving stolen property, criminal use of a communication device, illegal transfer of firearms, and illegal possession of a firearm.

Girardi needed to be brought to trial by Nov. 23, 2018, according to the court order issued by Lycoming County Judge Nancy L. Butts.

He had been scheduled for a one-day trial on different dates prior to that time.

But his case was delayed and other trials with later deadlines were scheduled ahead of it.

Girardi, who served as head football at Jersey Shore Area High School and as an assistant at Lycoming College, was accused of stealing money and a gun from a home in exchange for illegal drugs in 2016.
