KFC Foundation selects Jersey Shore resident as winner of national employee scholarship
This year, nearly 700 employees at KFC® restaurants across the country were awarded more than $1.5 million in college tuition assistance from the KFC Foundation thanks to KFC Franchisees, including Williamsport, Pa’s own Keith Cole and the KFC Corporation. Through a competitive selection process, resident Reagan West of Jersey Shore, Pa was chosen as a winner via the REACH Educational Grant Program® and will receive $3,000 for the 2021 calendar year.
During these unprecedented times, access to educational programs and resources is more critical than ever. The REACH Program helps KFC U.S. restaurant employees pursue their educational dreams at four-year and two-year colleges, including trade/vocational and graduate schools.
Reagan has been an employee at the Williamsport KFC since 2015 and has become one of the company’s top Assistant Managers.
“I’m extremely proud to call Reagan a member of our KFC family” said Michelle Lundy, KFC Area Coach.
Reagan has won nearly $16,000 in scholarships from the KFC Foundation over her 4 year college career. She is currently a student at Lycoming College and will be completing her degree in Criminal Justice in 2021.
The program takes inspiration from Colonel Harland Sanders and his passion for helping people. “The KFC Family has a long and rich history of philanthropy,” said Emma Horn, Managing Director of the KFC Foundation. “We’re proud to honor the Colonel’s legacy and help this inspiring, hard-working group of students reach for their dreams.”
The KFC Foundation originated with the values of Colonel Sanders-specifically, from an act of kindness by the Colonel himself, who gave a hitchhiker who happened to be a college student a ride and a full scholarship. Today, the KFC Foundation continues to provide support to KFC restaurant employees across the U.S. through its charitable assistance programs, which include:
• REACH Educational Grant Program – Helps employees pursue their educational dreams at four-year and two-year colleges by providing tuition assistance.
• Rise with GEDWorks – In partnership with GED Testing Service, this program, offered in English and Spanish, provides unlimited access to GED preparation and testing and pairs students with a personal advisor.
• KFC Family Fund – Provides financial assistance to employees who have been directly impacted by a severe hardship, crisis, or catastrophic incident beyond their control.
• MyChange with SaverLife – Empowers KFC restaurant employees to gain and improve critical money management skills.
Operating independently from KFC Corporation and led by a board including KFC franchisees, the KFC Foundation receives the majority of its financial support from the Cole Slaw Donation Program. In this voluntary program, KFC franchisees elect to contribute a portion of their restaurant cole slaw sales to engage in and support the Foundation’s initiatives.
