Williamsport police investigating shooting that sent one person to hospital

A 25 year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound near Maple Street and Memorial Avenue about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Sun-Gazette was told.

There was no word on the extent of the woman’s injuries.

She was loaded onto a stretcher and carried out of a home near the intersection and placed into the back of an ambulance that took her to UPMC Williamsport.

Police quickly cordoned off the entire area with yellow tape.

With flashlights, police went up and down Memorial Avenue and Maple Street looking for any kind of ballistics evidence. Lycoming County parole officers also assisted at the scene.

Two neighbors told the Sun-Gazette they heard what sounded to them like three to four gunshots.

Investigators were expected to be at the scene for several hours.

The Sun-Gazette will have more on this developing story as details become available.
