Five charged with DUI

Within minutes after a state trooper pulled him over for making an illegal U-turn with his Chevrolet Suburban in the 1900 block of East Third Street in Loyalsock Township about 10 p.m. on March 2, Nicholas Greenly, 39, of 1114 Mulberry St., admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages, according to an affidavit.

“There was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle,” the trooper wrote in the court document.

After Greenly completed a series of field sobriety tests, the trooper determined that there was a “high probability that the driver was under the influence,” the affidavit stated. Greenly, who had a blood-alcohol concentration level of .22, was charged with DUI and a summary traffic violation, has waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $5,000 bail. This was his second DUI arrest in little more than three months, police said. He already waived his hearing in the first incident that occurred on Nov. 25 when a trooper followed him from downtown Williamsport to his home.

In another case, upon state police stopping Joseph J. Remaley II on Route 15 in South Williamsport about 7 p.m. on Feb. 12 because the registration on his 2007 Chevrolet Equinox was suspended, the 43-year-old driver admitted to “consuming jello shots earlier in the afternoon,” according to an affidavit. It turned out that Remaley’s driver’s license was also suspended.

During a series of field sobriety tests, Remaley, of Bloomsburg, “demonstrated signs of impairment,” and a blood test revealed he had amphetamine and methamphetamine in his system, police said. Charged with DUI of controlled substances and three summary violations, Remaley has waived his hearing and is free on bail.

In another case, after South Williamsport police pursued him all the way from the borough to the 1700 block of West Third Street in the city about 1:45 a.m. on March 5, Zachary Cronin, driving a 2007 Subaru Impreza, displayed a variety of characteristics that gave the impression that he was impaired, including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and an odor of an alcoholic beverage “coming from his breath,” according to an affidavit. Cronin, 22, of Bellefonte, admitted that he had “two drinks,” police said. With a blood-alcohol concentration level of .10, he was charged with DUI and two summary violations. He has since waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $5,000 bail.

In another case, Mitchelle Hargenrander, 48, of 428 Elm St., Montoursville, was charged with DUI and a summary vehicle code violation after a borough police officer stopped her pickup truck near Weaver and Chestnut streets about 11:30 p.m. on March 30, according to an affidavit. “While speaking with her, I saw signs that she had been consuming alcoholic beverages,” the officer wrote in the court document. There also was an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her truck, police said, adding that Hargenrander was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The woman agreed to exit the truck to undergo field sobriety tests, police said, and when she did, the officer saw “she was not wearing any shoes. Hargenrander stated she had just run out of the house,” the affidavit stated. While talking with the officer, she apparently became confused and stated “she was not driving and that she was going to hire an attorney,” the officer said. She refused to submit a blood test, police said. She has waived her preliminary hearing and is free on bail.

In another case, Gary Hollada, 61, 414 W. Central Ave., South Williamsport, also waived his preliminary hearing on a DUI charge and summary violation stemming from an incident when a state trooper stopped his 2021 Jeep on Market Street the borough about 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, according to an affidavit. Hollanda, who “admitted to consuming alcohol throughout the night,” showed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests, police said, adding he had a blood-alcohol concentration level of .11.
