Williamsport woman accused of stealing purse from store’s counter

Darla Jean Bailey, 52, of 1202 Park Ave., has been charged with theft and receiving stolen property for stealing another woman’s purse that the victim accidentally left on a counter at Walmart, 1015 N. Loyalsock Ave., Montoursville, on March 4, borough police alleged in an affidavit. The wallet contained $40 to $50 in cash along with several gift cards, police were told.

The theft was recorded on the store’s surveillance cameras, police said.

Bailey surrendered to authorities three weeks later, admitting that she took the victim’s wallet and “tossed it somewhere in the store,” police said in the court document. There was no report that the wallet or its contents were ever recovered. Bailey has since waived her preliminary hearing and is free on bail.
