Four charged with assault in separate cases

After threatening to kill family members during a very loud disturbance in his Muncy home and slashing a woman’s thumb with a knife in a neighbor’s house, Joel Michael Shilling was taken into custody, but only after officers were forced to taser him, it was alleged in a borough police affidavit.

During the disturbance, he “flipped a coffee table at an officer,” it was alleged in the court document.

Following the 11 p.m. incident on April 14, Shilling, 22, of 15 S. Washington St., was taken by ambulance to UPMC Muncy, where he told a hospital police officer attempting to put ankle shackles on him “No matter how many cuffs you put on me, you’ll be dead by retirement,” police alleged.

Also brought to the hospital was the female acquaintance Shilling allegedly assaulted, police said. In addition to cutting the woman’s left thumb, Shilling jumped on her and put his hands around her throat, making it difficult for her to breathe, police alleged.

After breaking free, the woman ran out of the house “to a place she felt safe,” court records stated.

“I just felt scared,” she told police.

“He’s a good friend of mine,” she said of Shilling, who has been charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, strangulation, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Following a preliminary hearing, he was held for court on all charges and remains locked up in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.

In another case, after Antoine Atkinson pushed the woman during an argument in her home in the 1600 block of Sherman Street about 12:15 a.m. on May 23 , she told him, “Don’t you put your hands on me,” according to a city police affidavit

Then, the 38-year-old man attacked her, “violently punching the woman hard in the jaw, face and head,” police alleged.

The woman was terrorized and began to worry about losing consciousness, her safety and the safety of her children, police said.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she “received stitches to her bottom lip” as well as treatment for a large bruise to her left eye, possible facial fractures and injuries to her jaw, police said.

Atkinson, of 13 ½ W. Fourth St., has been charged with recklessly endangering, terroristic threats and simple assault. He has waived his preliminary hearing and was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.

In another assault case, Carl Terrance Sly, 51, of 610 Lycoming St., has been charged with simple assault and harassment for punching a 13-year-old girl “three to four times” in the face in the 500 block of Memorial Avenue about 6 p.m. on March 26, city police alleged in court papers. He has waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $5,000 bail.

In a fourth case, Kathleen Linette Hill, 47, 101 W. Water St., Muncy, faces charges of simple assault and harassment for punching her 22-year-old son in his face and causing injuries to her 17-year-old daughter’s right ear during a domestic disturbance at the mother’s home about 7:30 p.m. on May 9, it was alleged in a borough police affidavit.

Following her arraignment before District Judge Christian Frey, Hill, who has since waived her preliminary hearing, was released on $5,000 bail.
