Williamsport motorist jailed on numerous offenses following pursuit

What began as a simple minor vehicle-code violation for Thomas Baldwin Gibson ended up landing the 22-year-old motorist in jail after he refused to pull over for state police and traveled in excess of 100 mph on Interstate 180 in the city about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, court records alleged. Driving a 2003 Mitsubishi, Gibson, of 323 Locust St., exited the interstate at the Reach Road and managed to elude police, who responded to the 100 block of Valley Street in DuBoistown, where South Williamsport found it abandoned. Just before midnight, Gibson and his passenger were located and detained as they were walking along Route 654, police said. During the pursuit, Gibson traveled through an active work site on Reach Road, police said. Two construction workers were able to identify Gibson as the man who was allegedly behind the wheel, according to an affidavit. Once in custody, Gibson told police he was “not sure why he fled,” the affidavit stated. Troopers initially tried to stop him on the interstate in Loyalsock Township because the lights on his license plate were not operating properly, police said. Arraigned hours later before Solomon on felony fleeing police, resisting arrest, five counts of recklessly endangering another person plus 19 summary offenses, Gibson was committed to the county prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
