Firefighters quickly put out Clinton Township fire, save three cats

MONTGOMERY -When a fire broke out in her mobile home at 2054 Route 53 in Clinton Township on Tuesday night, Sharonda Hartford managed to get out, but she was unable to round up her three cats who were left behind in the smoke-filled trailer, according to Clinton Township Fire Chief Todd Winder. However, once on the scene, firefighters quickly entered the home, doused the bedroom fire and rescued the three felines that were brought safely outside, Winder said.
The fire, which broke out about 7 p.m., was extinguished “within minutes,” he said. When some family members and friends arrived, they briefly “interfered” with firefighters who were working to put the fire out, Winder said, adding that he had to call police to the scene to help quell the tension.
As a result of the fire, which was caused by a space heater igniting items that were too close to it while on, Hartford will be temporarily displaced, Winder said.
