Man injured when car crashes on private property in Williamsport

A 68-year-old city man driving this Mazda Protege was recovering from injuries he suffered when he traveled off Locust Streeet and on to private property of Bethlehem Wire Rope, where he crashed into a fence, according to emergency responders who were called to the scene about 8;45 a.m. Sunday.

The driver was trapped in the car, which was entangled in the fence, city fire officials said. Firemen had to cut out a section of the fence in order to free him from the car before they could load him into an ambulance.

It was unknown when the accident actually took place, one fire officer said, adding that the driver might have been in the wreckage much of the night. The accident, which was in a remote location, was discovered only by a Bethlehem Wire Rope security guard who was walking around the property.

Once the driver was loaded into the ambulance, firefighters pushed the Mazda away from the fence. Williamsport police were leading the investigation.
