Lycoming County district judges kept busy with charges including assault, theft

Domestic disturbance results in Woodward Township man’s incarceration

When state troopers arrived at a Route 220 apartment in Woodward Township on Sunday night to speak with a female victim of a violent domestic disturbance, they found the woman’s “face, nose and mouth covered in blood,” it was stated in an affidavit. It is alleged that her former boyfriend, Garrett Wyatt Campbell, 27, of 204 Back St., Linden, inflicted her injuries during a “verbal argument that turned physical” in his home, police said, The argument was over Campbell “proposing” to the woman, police said. It was alleged that he punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground,” police said. “He then grabbed her head, and repeatedly struck her head off the ground, causing her nose to bleed,” it was stated in the court document. Following his arraignment before District Judge Christian Frey on charges of simple assault and harassment, Campbell was locked up in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Homeless man allegedly assaults nurse while receiving medical treatment

Michael Martin Allen, a 34-year-old intoxicated homeless man, has been arrested on charges of having inappropriate contact with a nurse while she was trying to treat him and get his vitals in the emergency room at the Geisinger Medical Center on Route 220 in Muncy Township on Dec. 18, according to township police. Brought to the hospital to be treated for his alcoholism, Allen grabbed the nurse’s buttocks and tried “to run his hand between the back of her thighs,” it was alleged in an affidavit. He refused to leave the premises and struggled with officers when they took him into custody, police alleged. Charged with indecent assault and resisting arrest, Allen waived his preliminary hearing last week before District Judge Kirsten Gardner and remains incarcerated in lieu of $10,000 bail. Hours before the assault, Allen caused problems with medical staff at UPMC Williamsport, police said.

Numerous charges lodged against Wolf Township man

When two women showed up in their vehicle at Ty Austin Barto’s home in Wolf Township to take custody of a child during the early-morning hours of Dec. 13, the 27-year-old intoxicated man “came out of his home and became aggressive with them,” it was alleged in an affidavit. When the two attempted to retreat in their car, “Barto began hitting the windows and pulling on the door,” police were told. Barto then opened one of the passenger doors and attempted to pull one of the women out of the vehicle, it was alleged.

When the woman driving the car initially stopped at the bottom of Barto’s driveway at 10349 Route 864, Barto got in his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and drove towards the women, police said. He then got out and again started hitting the car windows and doors, police said, adding that he got back in his truck and pursued the women a short distance before getting out of the truck and again banging on the car windows, Barto was taken into custody at the scene and arrested on charges of stalking, DUI, public drunkenness and harassment. Following his arraignment before Frey, Barto was initially locked up, but has since been released on $25,000 bail. He waived his preliminary hearing last week.

Centre County man faces theft-related charges

With bolt cutters, a pry bar and other tools, Zachary Corey Cooper attempted to break into a skills payout machine at the B&D Laundromat, 214 S. Main St., Jersey Shore, last March 24, causing an estimated $1,630, Lycoming Regional police alleged in an affidavit. Charged with attempted theft, possession of an instrument of crime and criminal mischief, Cooper, 38, of Bellefonte, has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge Denise Dieter.

Three women charged with shoplifting in separate cases

Ava Elsie Burkins, 20, of 4976 Bloomingrove Road, has been charged with misdemeanor shoplifting after she was caught stealing $420 worth of merchandise from Wegmans, 201 William St., on Sept. 9, city police alleged. She has since waived her preliminary hearing before District Judge Aaron Biichle and is free on $5,000 bail.

In another case, Addison Sylvia Crawley, 31, of 190 Baer St., Jersey Shore, has been charged with the same offense after she allegedly fled Sheetz at 7775 Route 220 in Woodward Township with $40 worth of merchandise on Nov. 10, according to state police records at Dieter’s office. This was his second shoplifting offense, police said. She has waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $15,000 bail.

In another case, Robin G. Zimmerman, 60, of 5811 Route 220, apartment 1, Hughesville, has been charged by Montoursville police with two misdemeanor counts of shoplifting after stealing $54 worth of merchandise from Walmart on North Loyalsock Avenue on Sept. 9 and $125 worth of merchandise from the same store on Oct. 9, it was alleged in a court document. She was arraigned last week before District Judge Gary Whiteman and released on $5,000 bail.

Clinton County man accused of stealing vehicle radiators

Tanner Barry Sanders, 24, of 3193 Rauchtown Road, Crawford Township, has been arrested on charges of allegedly stealing three vehicle radiators from behind the Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Earth Science Center at 203 Allenwood Camp Lane, outside Montgomery, on Dec. 7, according to Penn College police. Investigators located the stolen radiators in the back of his truck the next day in the 400 block of Trinity Place in the city, it was stated in an affidavit. The radiators, owned by the college or a college employee, had a total value of $250, police said. Sanders, charged with theft and receiving stolen property, has waived his preliminary hearing before Gardner and is free on $25,000 bail.
