Delta Kappa Gamma Society International welcomes new members
The Alpha Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International recently met at the Towanda Country Club and expanded its membership with the initiation of six new members. The initiates included Trina Beers and Colleen Kinney, both teachers in the Canton School District; Nicole Schrader and Jamie Bagley, Troy Area School District teachers; and Stacie Peterman and Brandy Walker, Sullivan County teachers.
Member Carol Lane welcomed the sisters and initiates and offered a prayer before dinner. After the meal, June Wynne, president, called the business meeting to order. Theresa Sparrow, accompanied by Joyce Kerrick, led the sisters in the singing of “School Days” and “We Expand This Chapter.”
The Thought for the Day was presented by Colleen Kane, who expressed what DKG personally means to her. In addition to various committee reports, Shirley Allis, first vice president, reported about the five-day Northeast Regional Convention that she attended in Maryland with Carol Lane and Linda Nickerson.
Following the committee reports, several sisters received special recognition in the form of a red rose, the society’s symbol for recent achievements. Wynne recognized four sisters who received the Women of Distinction Award at the Alpha Alpha State Convention this year: Sherry Spencer, Beth Madden, Barbara Pulver and Linda Ferrario. In addition, several sisters were recognized with pins for their years of membership: Grace George, 25 years; Pat Stadelmaier, 40 years; Joan Moody, 55 years; and Virginia Hough, 60 years.
The evening concluded with the initiation of new members; the Alpha Zeta Singers sang and Kathleen Worthington, co-chairman of the initiation committee, conducted a ceremony.
