Leah Bower participates with The Harrisburg Internship Semester

The Harrisburg Internship Semester (THIS) pairs one student from each State University with a specific governmental department for one semester. Interns are placed in working relationships with policymakers, as well as independent boards, agencies and commissions. Students learn the dynamics of state government through direct involvement in report and speech writing, research and program design and evaluation.

This semester, Leah Bower, Lock Haven University senior disability and community services major minoring in political science, is working in the Policy Development office for the Department of Human Services. On a daily basis, she assists with state research projects, bill analysis, workgroup meetings and policy programming/evaluation.

“I am hoping this internship will lead to more opportunities to advocate for individuals with disabilities and their right to equality, fairness, and independence,” Bower said.

Students at Lock Haven University who are interested in The Harrisburg Internship Semester should Contact Dr. Stanley Berard, LHU faculty member, for more information on how to apply.

Dr. Berard can be reached at 570-484-2187 or email sberard@LHUP.edu.
