Area Students of the Month

Estrella

Mary-Grace Estrella, daughter of the Rev. Estrella and Beverly and Michael Wheeland, has been selected by the faculty as the January Senior of the Month at South Williamsport Area High School.

She is involved in activities including National Honor Society (10-12, secretary 12), varsity tennis (10-12, second team PHAC All Star doubles team), band (5-12, co-section leader 10-12), chorus (10-12), class historian (10-12), Peace Corps Club (11-12, vice president 12), Family Career and Community Leaders of America (12), Drama Department crew (9-12), MiniTHON committee (9-12, treasurer 11, overall chair 12) and Principal Advisory committee (11-12).

Estrella also has participated in two mission trips to the Dominican Republic and works in personal care for the elderly.

Following graduation, she plans to attend Messiah College, majoring in Spanish with a K-12 teaching certification.

Minium

Lloyd T. Minium, son of Connie and Herbert Minium, was named Milton Rotary Club Vocational Student of the Month at Warrior Run High School for the month of January.

He is a member of the baseball team and is a Defender PRIDE recipient. He is employed by Country Cupboard, Lewisburg, and following graduation, he plans to enlist in the Navy.

Snyder

Madison J. Snyder, daughter of Ronda and Donald Snyder, was named Outstanding Senior at Warrior Run High School for the month of January.

He is a member of the National Honor Society, is the captain of the field hockey team and is the secretary for the Class of 2016.

She also has been on the distinguished honor roll, was a Defender PRIDE recipient, received PHAC Academic Field Hockey All Star award and the Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony awards, presented by the University of Rochester.

Outside of school she attends Holy Spirit Lutheran Church and youth group and is a volunteer and substitute teacher at Happy Harbor Preschool.

Following graduation, she plans to attend Bloomsburg University and major in speech and language pathology in pursuit of a career in the medical field.

Cragun

Ian N. Cragun, son of Kristi Homan and David Cragun, was named Turbotville Lions Club Student of the Month at Warrior Run High School for the month of January.

He is a member of the concert choir, student council, the varsity soccer team and participates in school musicals, indoor soccer and also likes to fish and go kayaking.

He is an Academic All Star and has received three varsity letters for soccer and one for track and field.

Following graduation, he plans to attend Triangle Tech, Sunbury, and major in maintenance electrician and become a certified electrician.

Gates

Samantha R. Gates, daughter of Jody and Bill Gates, was named Watsontown Lions Club Student of the Month at Warrior Run High School for the month of January.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, Youth in Philanthropy and the cross country, basketball teams and participates in the pole vault in track and field. She also is a volunteer for Red Creek Wildlife Center and participates in Natural Horsemanship.

She has received the Outstanding Athlete Award for track, has been on the honor roll and is a Defender PRIDE recipient.

Following graduation, she plans to attend college and major in biology, marine biology or special education.
