City native named as a ‘Abigail Geisinger Scholar’

SCRANTON — Tyler Bogaczyk, of Williamsport, and nine other new doctors-in-training have committed to staying in the Scranton region to practice medicine by becoming part of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine’s (GCSOM) innovative Abigail Geisinger Scholars Program.

The program helps the community by encouraging students to pursue their dreams without having to make financial calculations based on student-loan payments, said Jaewon Ryu, MD, Geisinger president and CEO.

The program selects students through a competitive application process. Selection criteria include demonstrated financial need, academic merit, diversity and predictors of whether the applicant is likely to stay in the region Geisinger serves.
