Upcoming events for students, community

LOCK HAVEN — Lock Haven University will be holding a variety of upcoming events such as Mental Health Awareness Night, a Veterans’ Expo and Job Fair and the Business and Accounting Senior Reception.

Mental Health Awareness Night

Suicide prevention and mental health advocates, suicide attempt and loss survivors and mental health professionals will discuss ways to help prevent suicide and bring awareness to mental health issues in the state and on college campuses during Mental Health Awareness Night. The event will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Ulmer Hall Planetarium, room 211.

Presenters at the event will be Govan Martan, chair and executive director of Prevent Suicide PA; Tulare Park, director of disability services for students at the university; Laura Gardner, instructor in the social work and counseling department; Matthew Barkley, instructor in the health science department; and Elina Lure, student.

Veterans’ Expo and Job Fair

More than 25 exhibitors will be in attendance to provide educational, employment, social, emotional and financial resources to attendees at the annual Veterans’ Expo and Job Fair from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Student Recreation Center. Almost a dozen employers also will be on hand to help veterans transition to new careers. The Clinton County Register and Recording Office will be on site to register DD214s. Attendees should bring their original DD214, as well as a copy.

University students enrolled in the physician assistant program also will provide free blood pressure and glucose screenings and attendees can join the Student Veterans Alliance in making greeting cards for local veterans.

The event will include door prizes every hour and refreshments. Presentation of colors will be at 1 p.m.

Business, accounting senior reception

The campus will host a senior reception for students in the business and accounting programs to provide students the opportunity to network with local business persons and apply interpersonal and social skills in this type of business setting. The reception will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 26 in the Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center Poorman Ballroom.

The reception helps students improve their confidence skills and ability to interact comfortably in a professional networking environment.

Refreshments will be provided during the event.
