Flags for a cause

In the brutal wind and snow, typical of a November football game in Central Pennsylvania, The Williamsport Millionaire junior and senior girls made memories at the high school’s STA Stadium they will never forget during the annual 2019 powderpuff game.

The school activity is organized by the senior class executive board to raise money for end-of-the-year class functions and a greater cause. Portions of this year’s proceeds from the annual junior, senior game were donated to help fight homelessness in the community.

The junior team took a win for the first time in eight years with a final score of 22-18.

“Even though we lost, I made connections with my teammates, and it was one of those senior year memories I will hold on to forever,” said Lily Douglass, senior class president.

The girls once again took to the field, but this time to battle the Loyalsock Lady Lancers in the third annual Battle of the Beltway game. Proceeds from the Battle of the Beltway game were also donated to local agencies supporting homelessness in the community.

The Lady Lancers took the trophy this year, beating Williamsport with a score of 38-8.

“In the heated moments of the games, it didn’t matter if we won or lost, we were still a team that came together to be there for the experience,” said Mariah Wright, senior, who played in both the Battle of the Beltway games during her junior and senior years.
