Chamber to hold 19th annual Education Celebration

The 19th annual Education Celebration, held by the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, emphasizes the relationship between the business and education communities. The area’s future workforce development needs will be better served through a strong relationship, a news release said. The Education Celebration will be held 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 5.

Several awards will be presented including the Business Partner in Education Award, Outstanding Senior Award, Outstanding Professional Educator Award and Alumni of the Year Award.

The Outstanding Senior Award is given to a senior from one of nine Lycoming County school districts. This year’s recipients include: Rachel Bitler, East Lycoming School District; Maxwell Ferguson, Jersey Shore Area School District; Alexander Reed, Loyalsock Township School District; Dylan Ring, Montgomery Area School District; Julia Mertes, Montoursville Area School District; Madesyn Brelsford, Muncy School District; Samantha Branton, South Williamsport Area School District; Josiah Reid, St. John Neumann Regional Academy; and Zoe Wagner, Williamsport Area School District.

The Outstanding Professional Educator Award is given to an individual who makes extraordinary contributions to the education profession. This year’s recipients include: Ron Lorson, East Lycoming School District; Jill Flook, Jersey Shore Area School District; Karen Fox, Loyalsock Township School District; Pam Martzall, Montgomery Area School District; Rich DeLong, Montoursville Area School District; Heather Zimmerman, Muncy School District; Tara McGlensey, South Williamsport Area School District; Tina Pulver, South Williamsport Area School District; Brenda Kremser, St. John Neumann Regional Academy; and Kristiann McQuown, Williamsport Area School District.

The Alumni of the Year Award is presented to one graduate from each of Williamsport’s higher educational institutions. This award is to recognize individuals who attended college in Williamsport and have stayed in the area to become successful and active residents here in Lycoming County. This year’s recipients are Mark Sitler, Lycoming College Class of 1986, and Christopher Gayman, Pennsylvania College of Technology Class of 2010.

The Business Partner in Education Award is given to a business that demonstrates how area businesses can partner with schools and students who will one day become future business leaders. This year’s recipient is High Steel Structures, LLC.
