Jersey Shore FBLA heads to states

71 members qualify for states

JERSEY SHORE — The Jersey Shore Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter attended the Regional Leadership Conference at Pennsylvania College of Technology. There were 18 schools in attendance with over 650 students. In attendance, Jersey Shore FBLA chapter had 118 students attend the conference. In total, the chapter has 125 members.

Of the 118 students, 71 placed in their competitive events and will be advancing to the State Leadership Conference. The chapter also participated in four state-only events that are project based and then judged by a panel of state judges.

The Jersey Shore chapter four projects placed in the top 10 for the state and qualified for the State Leadership Conference. The chairpersons for the projects will present at states for to compete. If the projects place in the top four for the state, it will qualify them for FBLA Nationals. The qualifying chapter projects and chairpersons are:

Computer game and simulation programming

Chairpersons: Maxwell Ferguson and Micah Worth.

This event tests the programmer’s skill in designing a functional interactive simulation/game that will both entertain and educate the player.

Community service

Chairpersons: Maxwell Ferguson, Stephanie Steinbacher and Lexey Cohick.

Successfully implement a community service project to the citizens of their community. Jersey Shore FBLA organized the #weSHOREcare food drive that collected $16,000 for The New Love Center and $12,000 for the YWCA.

Partnership with business

Chairpersons: Alexa Greevy, DJ Steinbacher and Stephanie Steinbacher.

Learn about a business through communication and interaction with the business community. Jersey Shore FBLA partnered with the Nippenose Valley Village and developed a store for the residents, operated by FBLA members and volunteers. All proceeds benefit the #weSHOREcare project.

Digital video production

Chairperson: Corina Sarge.

Create a video promoting a new discount airline that serves the states surrounding Pennsylvania. The video also had to promote the new airline, including a theme/slogan, information about flight schedules and a description of the frequent flyer program.

American enterprise

Chairperson: Samantha Machmer.

This chapter event requires the chapter to develop a project that increases the understanding of and support for the American Enterprise System. Jersey Shore FBLA has partnered with the Life Skills Class and the high school library to develop the Dawg Pound Coffee Shop where students are learning how to develop, operate and manage a business.
