Bloomsburg University students complete academic internships

BLOOMSBURG — Students from Bloomsburg University recently completed academic internships during the 2019 fall and winter sessions.

For-credit, academic internships must meet requirements set by academic departments.

Students work with a site supervisor and faculty advisor during the internship, gaining hands-on learning and practical experience.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers reported in 2016 that 72.2 percent of paid interns with private, for-profit companies received a job offer, while only 36 percent of students with no internship experience did so.

Area students who completed academic internships include:

Geanna Green, of Williamsport, completed an academic internship with the City of Williamsport.

Jamie Yonkin, of Williamsport, completed an academic internship with Williamsport Area School District.

Hanna Fitzmartin, of Elkland, completed an academic internship with Elmcroft.

Travis Krall, of New Columbia, completed an academic internship with Milton High School.

George Reasner, of Turbotville, completed an academic internship with Geisinger Medical Center.

Douglas Bird, of Watsontown, completed an academic internship with the Diocese of Scranton Schools.

Shanae Bomberger, of Watsontown, completed an academic internship with Geisinger Medical Center.

Bryce Kessler, of Watsontown, completed an academic internship with Geisinger Medical Center.

Marissa Oakes, of Watsontown, completed an academic internship with Hazleton Area School District.

Autumn Gilmour, of Wellsboro, completed an academic internship with Saint Columbia Catholic School.

Internships are part of a comprehensive effort at Bloomsburg University to equip students with practical experience and employer connections, on campus and in the field, to impact their community and workplace.
