Civics 101 from PCN
Civics 101, a free service from the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN), is an online educational tool to help Pennsylvania students understand how the state government works. This tool is intended to supplement classroom learning, but can also be a useful tool in the home. The program aims to bring the basics of lawmaking to life for students while having fun and staying engaged.
Programs include interviews with elected officials such as Gov. Tom Wolf and Lieutenant Gov. John Fetterman. It also offers tours of the state capitol and Governor’s residence. In addition, an interactive video game is available to keep children interested in the material. The more they learn about voting and our three branches of government, the further they advance through quizzes, fun reviews and more.
A Continuing Education section provides adults with a deeper level of study through talks on related topics. The site is accompanied by a Teacher’s Guide, which provides ideas for ways Civics 101 resources may be utilized.
PCN welcomes users to share how they’re using Civics 101. In return, PCN will send a certificate of recognition and a special gift, while supplies last.
