LHU interim dean named to seat on State Board of Medicine

LOCK HAVEN — Walter Eisenhauer, interim dean of Lock Haven University’s College of Natural, Behavioral and Health Sciences, recently was named to a seat on the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine.

PA Act 79, the PA Modernization Act, was passed in the fall session of 2021. One aspect of the act was creating a permanent seat for a physician assistant on the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. Eisenhauer had been serving on the board for the last two years in the capacity of a rotating seat. The rotating seat allowed physician assistants to rotate in on four-year cycles, in rotation with other health professionals that are licensed by the board.

Eisenhauer, who also is a former LHU faculty member, was nominated for the permanent seat by Governor Wolf and went before the PA Senate for approval. He was then contacted by the Governor’s office when the new law went into place and asked if he would continue his service. Eisenhauer was sworn into the permanent seat in late February for a four-year term.

The State Board of Medicine is responsible for the oversight of the practice of medicine within the Commonwealth. It consists of allopathic physicians, a public member, the Physician General of Pennsylvania, allied health professions licensed under the board and now a permanent seat for a physician assistant.

The board meets monthly to review applications for medical licenses, consider disciplinary actions and opine on legislation that may impact the practice of medicine in the state.

“Lock Haven University is exceedingly proud of Walt Eisenhauer’s nomination and swearing in to the PA State Board of Medicine,” said Dr. Ron Darbeau, LHU provost. “
