Penn College archers set to host big event

Pennsylvania College of Technology archers are getting set to host their only home event of the year — the East Region Outdoor Collegiate Championships on Saturday and next Sunday — and coach Chad Karstetter has high hopes for his team.

“Overall, the team looks very strong and I believe it will show at our event,” Karstetter said. “We are looking forward to having a home event this year. It’s nice to have the home-field advantage.”

About 120 archers from a dozen colleges or universities are expected to participate during competition on the athletic field next to the field house. Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, with practice beginning immediately afterward. Divisions include men’s and women’s compound, recurve, bowhunter and barebow. Qualifying, with 72 arrows each, will be held prior to the mixed team rounds at 4 p.m.

Action continues at 8 a.m. April 22, with practice followed by individual head-to-head elimination and medal rounds. After lunch, official team rounds begin at 1.
