2 arrested for alleged attempt to burglarize South Side apartment

Two people were arrested on burglary and related charges following a break-in of an apartment Thursday night in South Williamsport.

Lanner David Boyce, 19, of 345 Maxwell Place, Williamsport, and Galen Smith, 18, of 1004 W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport are in Lycoming County Prison after each failed to post $100,000 bail.

Police responded to 815 W. Southern Ave. at about 9:42 p.m. after receiving a report of a burglary in process, according to an affidavit.

After being detained by residents of the apartment building, Boyce was taken into custody by police.

He initially explained to police he had gone with Smith to the apartment to recover $800.

Jonah Huffman, a resident of the apartment, told police that he had not given permission for him to enter the residence.

Boyce told police he had lifted Smith onto the roof of the building to enter the apartment.

Smith was later taken into custody by police after making a phone call to Boyce and returning to the scene of the burglary.

Smith and Boyce both face charges including burglary, criminal trespass and theft.

A preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27.
