Black bear hit by car bites driver

RENOVO — A South Renovo woman was bitten on her foot by a bear moments after her Dodge Dakota pickup truck struck the animal on Renovo Road in Chapman Township, state police said.

Joanne Rachau, 65, was traveling east when she hit the bear, which was crossing the two-lane road, at about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

After striking the bear, the truck landed in a ditch, police said.

Rachau got out of the vehicle and was bitten as she walked around the front of the truck to inspect the damage, police said. The bear then got up, walked across the roadway and out of sight, police said.

The woman was treated at the Bucktail Medical Center, police added.
