Fire consumes home in Avis on New Year’s Eve

AVIS – A family is homeless today but is receiving assistance from Red Cross after their home at 98 Tiadaghton Ave. in Pine Creek Township in Clinton County, burned down Monday night, borough fire officials said.

The blaze was called in about 7:40 p.m. just as people around the region were preparing for the New Year’s Eve celebration, according to a borough firefighter who was on the scene for several hours.

The occupants of the house were outside and unharmed as firefighters arrived to the fully engulfed house just off the Pine Street Route 44 exit, the official said.

The identity of the occupants was not immediately available Tuesday.

The fire was intense and lit up the night sky. Several neighbors captured the fire on camera phones and posted it on social networks.

The fire required three-alarms under the control of Chief Matthew Stover who called in numerous area departments, according to a firefighter with the Avis Fire Co.

Borough firefighters remained on the scene until about 2 a.m.

No firefighters were injured, the borough firefighter said.
