Boat accident victim identified

RALSTON – The man who died near here while fishing with a friend Friday afternoon on a pond at a private hunting cabin was Thomas Bell, 68, of Northumberland, according to Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr.

Bell and another man, also from the Northumberland County region, were thrown into the water after their rowboat capsized as they were attempting to change sitting positions, according to investigators.

The two men were hanging on to different ends of the upset boat, talking with one another when Bell apparently suffered a cardiac arrest, Kiessling said. The friend managed to bring Bell to shore and started CPR, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, Kiessling said.

Bell died along Frozen Run Road, about five miles of off Route 14.
