Cause of township fire remains undetermined

The cause of Thursday night’s blaze that destroyed a vacation home on Rock Run Road will remain undetermined, according to Hepburn Township Fire Chief Jeff Tempesco and Trooper Nicholas Loffredo, a state police fire marshal.

David Moore, of Baltimore, Maryland, the owner of the property, which was built in the early 1980s, had no insurance on the building, Tempesco said.

Volunteer firefighters from nearly a dozen communities responded to the three-alarm fire, which broke out about 6:30 p.m. A Woodward Township firefighter suffered minor injuries when a small section of a burning wall collapsed and struck him, knocking him to the ground, Tempesco said, adding the firefighter was treated at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center and discharged.

Tempesco said many of the fire companies at the scene have worked and trained together throughout the year to be better prepared to handle major fires and crashes.

“I’m proud to say the training has really paid off on several recent incidents” in which the fire companies have worked together at scenes, he said.
