County Prison inmate faces assault-related charges
A Lycoming County Prison inmate awaiting trial on attempted homicide-related offenses faces new charges after allegedly assaulting another inmate by punching and kicking him multiple times in the head, according to court records.
Norman Dennis, 41, of the Philadelphia area, attacked inmate Marvin Turner on the afternoon of Sept. 6, county Detective Stephen Sorage said in an affidavit.
It was unknown what prompted the assault.
Sorage said Dennis allegedly first punched Turner four times in the head and then kicked him in the head 14 times, rendering Turner “nearly unconscious.”
Turner was taken to the Williamsport Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.
Arraigned last week on charges of aggravated assault, assault by prisoner and simple assault, Dennis was recommitted to the jail in lieu of an additional $95,000 bail.
He and fellow-inmate Robert Vettese, 30, of Brookhaven, are awaiting trial on charges of trying to kill a pedestrian on Robbins Road, a remote road off of Warrensville Road, in Loyalsock Township on the afternoon of March 31.
State police said the two men were riding together that day and that Dennis, driving a Nissan Maxima, first struck the pedestrian and then Vettese aimed a gun at the man and fired at him, but missed.
The pedestrian, who recovered from the injuries he received from being hit by the car, was identified as Chaz Turner.
It was unknown Friday night if he is related to the inmate Dennis allegedly assaulted.
