Investigation into pedestrian death continues

The investigation into the traffic accident that claimed the life of John Yarosz, 66, who was struck and killed by an SUV while he was riding his motorized wheelchair at West Fourth and William streets on the afternoon of Oct. 19, is still ongoing, city Police Chief Damon Hagan said Friday afternoon.

“The investigation is definitely not closed,” Hagan said.

“We don’t yet have all the information,” he said.

Police are continuing to work with the Lycoming County District Attorney’s Office in determining whether or not any charges will be filed in the case.

Police have yet to released the identity of the driver who struck Yarosz, who was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

A witness told WNEP that Yarosz was crossing the street when he was hit, and that “his wheelchair flew.”

Police said Yarosz and his wheelchair were dragged a considerable distance following the collision.
