ATV operator treated after vehicle overturns in woods

A 61-old Hepburn Township man was taken to the Williamsport Regional Medical Center late Wednesday morning to be treated for injuries he suffered when the four-wheel all-terrain vehicle he was operating crashed in some woods near his home in the 400 block of Crescent Hill Road, according to Old Lycoming Township Police Chief Joseph Hope.

It was fortunate that the operator, whose identity was not released, had his cellphone with him and was able to call a relative to get help when the crash occurred about 11:15 a.m., Hope said.

Volunteer firefighters from Hepburn Township, Old Lycoming Township, Trout Run and DuBoistown responded to the crash.. The operator attempted to jump off the ATV as it began to overturn, but was unsuccessful, Hope said.

Emergency workers hiked about 200 yards into the woods to reach the victim, who was put on Trout Run’s ATV, taken to Crescent Hill Road, where he was loaded into an ambulance that transported him to the hospital.
