Police: Stabbing at Denny’s restaurant not random act
The stabbing that occurred late Wednesday night at Denny’s, 1716 E. Third St., did not appear to be a random act because both the assailant and the victim know each other, state police said Friday.
Richard Weaver, 40, of 523 E. Third St., remained behind bars in the Lycoming County Prison on Friday on charges of allegedly stabbing Chad Confer in the restaurant moments after entering the business about 11:40 p.m., police said.
Confer, an employee, was stabbed in the back and taken to UPMC Williamsport to be treated for a collapsed right lung and other injuries, police said. There was no word on his medical condition on Friday, but police said he was expected to recover.
The motive for the assault remained a mystery.
Weaver is a former restaurant employee who was recently terminated, police said they were told. He is jailed in lieu of $150,000 bail.
