Smoke alarms alert tenants to Walnut Street attic fire
The local chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting three men who found themselves homeless Saturday morning following a small fire that broke out in the attic of their Walnut Street home, city fire officials said.
A working smoke alarm alerted the tenants, whose names were not released, to a fire in the attic, officials said.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and had the fire extinguished in a matter of minutes.
It appeared the fire originated in a wall in a second-floor bedroom and made it’s way to the attic, officials said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
