Man jailed in Sam’s Place burglary

MUNCY — Steven James Martin, 28, of 317 Carpenter St., is jailed and denied bail after allegedly robbing Sam’s Place Lottery and Tobacco in Muncy Creek Township on March 18 around 9:57 p.m.

Martin, who was wearing a camouflage face mask and black goggles with a black drawstring bag at the time, held a semi-automatic pistol to the clerk and demanded money. According to court records, the clerk emptied the cash register money into Martin’s bag, totaling $3,507.54.

Court records state Martin then fled the scene from the west side of the building.

Evidence gathered from a multitude of surveillance cameras from the day of the robbery, phone messages, and interviews with both Martin and his mother led to Martin’s arrest by state police.

Martin was charged with robbery, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, terroristic threats, possessing instruments of crime and simple assault.
