Firefighters respond to 3 fires in the city

Damage was under $1,000 in a porch fire that broke out at the rear of 2135 W. Third St. about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, city fire officials said.

The fire, which was discovered by a neighbor, was quickly extinguished by firefighters before it could spread to the interior of the home, officials said, adding that no one was displaced. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

About two hours later, firefighters responded to Bayard Printing Group, 1 Maynard St., to investigate a small electrical fire in a fuse box.

Concerning another incident, city fire Platoon Chief Sam Aungst said a heat lamp sparked a fire in a 4×4 foot chicken coop at 1776 Williams Road about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. The fire extinguished within 10 minutes.
