Portable extinguishers used to douse fire involving oil tank at Williamsport Wire Rope

City firefighters rushed to Williamsport Wire Rope at 100 Maynard St. when a 30-gallon lube oil tank about 50 feet into the building caught fire about 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to fire officials.

The fire was contained to the two-foot high tank and was put out with the use of several portable fire extinguishers, officials said. Exhaust fans were used to clear smoke from the large structure.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation. There were no reports of injuries.

About 90 minutes later, South Williamsport firefighters and borough police were dispatched to the 100 block of West Mountain Avenue for a pedestrian accident. It was reported that the victim suffered a head injury. There were no other details available on Monday night.
