Charges filed against “irate” customer following disturbance at Family Dollar

Karen Sampson just didn’t want to wait in the long line of customers inside the Family Dollar at 1221 W. Fourth St. so she went straight to the counter with the can of soda she wanted to buy on Feb. 23, according to city Patrolman Gino Caschera.

When the cashier told her to go to the back of the line “Sampson became irate and began yelling,” the officer said in an affidavit.

Sampson, 60, of 1713 Blaine St., apartment 3, walked out of the store with the soda without paying for it, Caschera said.

“When another store employee confronted her outside, Sampson slapped the employee in the face. Sampson then went back inside the store, threw the money at the clerk and left,” Caschera said. Following her arraignment before Frey on charges of misdemeanor shoplifting and disorderly conduct, Samp- son was released on $2,500 bail.
