Area district judges handle several cases
Weapons charge filed against Jersey Shore area man
Shannon Bowes, 48, of 1567 River Road, Jersey Shore, has been charged with possession of a prohibitive offensive weapon after a sawed-off shotgun was discovered inside his home on July 30, according to Lycoming County Detective Stephen Sorage.
The discovery was made by sheriff deputies who were at the house to seize all firearms as to a judge’s protection from abuse order that had been filed against Bowes. He is free on $5,000 bail.
Four charged with DUI
During a series of standard field sobriety tests, motorist Michael Dautlick, 24, of Watkins Glen, “showed signs of impairment” following a crash on Middle Road, near Quarry Road, in Limestone Township on Sept. 20, according to state police. His blood-alcohol content level was .87, police said. He has been charged with DUI, reckless driving and careless driving, and sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
When a city police officer approached motorist Mark Hassinger, he “smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath, according to court records. Driving an SUV, Hassinger was stopped after he failed to use a turn signal at West Fourth and Campbell streets about 10:15 p.m. July 28. Hassinger, 55, of 528 Ruben Kehrer Road, Muncy, had a blood-alcohol content level of .18, police said. He was charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license, and is free on $5,000 bail.
A strong odor of marijuana was coming from motorist Austin McCandless, 22, of 1501 Richards Ave., after a state trooper stopped the man’s 2000 Buick Park Avenue on Interstate 180 in Loyalsock Township on May 24, according to an affidavit.
McCandless admitted he had smoked marijuana within the last hour and a blood test confirmed that the controlled substance was in his system at the time of the stop. Charged with DUI of marijuana, careless driving and driving with a suspended license, McCandless is free on $5,000 bail.
Motorist Edwin Pedraja, 44, of Allentown, had multiple controlled substances in his system while driving on Interstate 180 in Loyalsock Township about 10 a.m. on April 6, state police alleged in an affidavit.
A blood test revealed he had marijuana, amphetamines and methamphetamines in his system at the time, police said. Charged with DUI of controlled substances, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license, Pedraja is free on $5,000 bail.
Jersey Shore area man faces theft charges
When Thomas Gonzalez was permitted to purchase a $1,084 chainsaw from Dunlap’s Lawn and Garden, at 246 Cement Drive in Jersey Shore, with just a $100 down payment in mid-August, it was with the understanding that he would make additional payments in the coming weeks, according to Tiadaghton Valley Regional police.
However, when no additional payments were made by mid-October, police ended up charging Gonzalez, 54, of 150 Big Run Lane, Jersey Shore, with theft by deception, theft and misdemeanor shoplifting. He has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
