Alleged DUI caused holdup on Market Street bridge
A motorist charged with DUI allegedly rear-ended another vehicle traveling southbound over the Market Street bridge, according to police.
Anne Bender-Brennan drove her blue 2003 Buick Sedan into the rear of a red 2007 Pontiac while under the influence at around 9 p.m. Tuesday, alleged Trent Dunlap, an officer with the South Williamsport Police Department.
Southbound traffic on the bridge drew to a standstill while members of the South Williamsport Fire Department cleaned up debris from the vehicles. Meanwhile, city police helped redirect traffic away from the bridge.
After being hit, Dunlap said the driver of the Pontiac lost control of the vehicle and spun out. Although the driver was unharmed, a female passenger of the vehicle was transported to UPMC Williamsport to be treated for back and neck pain.
Bender-Brennan was taken into custody by police for suspected DUI and “related traffic offenses,” Dunlap said. She was uncooperative and refused to consent to a blood test, he alleged.
The passenger who received treatment at UPMC Williamsport was released Wednesday morning, according to Dunlap.
Traffic resumed at around 10 p.m.
