City woman arrested following domestic disturbance

Barricaded inside an upstairs room with her mother at the family’s home at 2412 Grand St., the frightened child pleaded with the parent again and again to let her out, but the woman refused, according to court records filed by city police.

Brittney Goehrig kept the door closed with the force of her body and a 2×4 board, police said. Officers responded to the home about 10:10 a.m. on June 26 for a domestic disturbance. The woman’s husband told police his wife “broke a window and cut herself, and trashed their apartment” before locking herself and their daughter in an upstairs room, court records stated.

An officer went upstairs and tried to convince Goehrig to open the door so he could assess and treat her injuries. He also told her to release the child, but she refused, police said.

The officer instructed the girl to move away from the door and to show herself through a window where another officer could see her, court records stated. Once the officer was assured that the child was clear from the door, he forced it open and took Goehrig, 35, into custody, police said. It was learned that both parents had used bath salts before Goehrig took the child upstairs, police said.

The mother was locked up overnight in jail after being declared unfit. At her arraignment the following afternoon on charges of false imprisonment and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Goehrig told District Judge Jerry Lepley “I’m a good parent.” She was released on $25,000 bail. She has since waived her preliminary hearing.
