Williamsport woman allegedly strikes bicyclist without realizing
Tarel Gallo allegedly did not realize she hit a bicyclist when she felt a jolt while driving to her boyfriend’s house the night of Sept. 19, according to city police reports.
However, the 31-year-old woman realized she needed to turn herself in when someone showed her a picture of her vehicle posted to the city police’s Facebook page, city patrol officer Nikita Bonnell said.
Gallo, of 1734 Loyalsock Drive, was driving her 2014 Chevrolet Cruze on Washington Boulevard at around 6:50 p.m. when she said she felt a “jolt” and continued driving, according to Bonnell.
Gallo told police she observed damage to the front passenger side of her vehicle, and that she had a flat tire she fixed the next morning, Bonnell said.
The bicyclist who was struck was reported to be incapacitated in a coma, has multiple facial fractures and is on a ventilator on Sept. 19, according to Bonnell. Efforts to get a medical condition update on the cyclist were unsuccessful.
Police charged Gallo with accidents involving death or personal injury, accidents involving damage to a vehicle or property, careless driving, and failing a duty to give information and render aid.
District Judge Aaron Biichle arraigned Gallo and released her on $50,000 bail. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Biichle on Oct. 21.
