Lycoming County district courts hear a variety of offenses
Two city men arrested for domestic violence in separate incidents
What started out as a “dumb argument” allegedly escalated into a full-blown assault, a female victim reluctantly told Lycoming Regional Police when they responded to an address in the 1900 block of Princeton Avenue on Oct. 13, an affidavit said.
The alleged victim, bearing a black and blue eye and other fresh bruises about her forehead, was in fear of the alleged aggressor, 37-year-old Francis Jose Nery, and initially refused to answer police questions. She then told police that Nery was angry because she would not let him in, according to court documents.
The alleged victim as well as neighbors interviewed by police stated that Nery had been pounding on the back door of the residence before moving to the front door, then leaving upon learning that police were on their way.
One neighbor said the pounding was so loud that it sounded as if the door would be knocked in and the front door of the house appeared almost fully kicked in, authorities allege.
Nery had initially fled the scene, but returned shortly after police left and continued pounding on the door.
Arriving back at the residence, officers noted the presence of a 2023 Jeep Cherokee not present during their previous visit.
Nery had an odor of alcohol, glossy eyes and repeated himself excessively, police allege.
Nery told officers he had only consumed one beer. He was argumentative throughout his encounter with police and had difficulty understanding officers’ instructions, authorities said.
Arraigned on charges of simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and DUI by District Judge William Solomon, Nery was remanded to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bail.
In another case, when city police arrived at a residence in the 700 block of West Third Street, they found a female victim with several recent injuries to her face, neck and upper chest, according to court documents.
Despite initially telling police the injuries were caused by a fall, the alleged victim later stated the injuries were caused by Dontay James Gulledge, 22, of 761 W. Third St., though she was scared and reluctant to elaborate, according to court documents.
“I will kill you and your family,” Gulledge told the alleged victim, according to a witness who heard the incident, who also said they heard what they believed to be the alleged victim being struck multiple times, authorities said.
Gulledge had a swollen right hand, which police said was consistent with striking the head of an individual.
District Judge Christian Frey arraigned Gulledge on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. He was jailed at the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.
Lewisburg resident charged in hit and run
A victim suffered a broken neck after being struck by a motor vehicle allegedly driven by Alec Matthew Reed, 22, of 2945 Westbranch Highway, Lewisburg just after 3 a.m. on Oct. 13, according to city police.
Several witnesses interviewed separately by police related that a vehicle driven by Reed was traveling down an unnamed alley at a high rate of speed, estimated to be between 45 and 60 mph until he reached a dead end, at which point he made a U-turn, striking the alleged victim, an affidavit said.
Reed then fled the scene at a high rate of speed, witnesses told police, according tMo court documents.
He was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person by District Judge Christian Frey and jailed at the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Man arrested for attempted car theft
Reginald Cashmere Eddins, 22, faces several charges following an alleged attempt to steal a vehicle from the parking lot of a convenience store in the 100 block of Maynard Street around 9 a.m. on Oct. 10, an affidavit said.
An alleged victim stated that as he was leaving the store, Eddins was in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, backing it out of the stall, authorities said.
When the owner approached, Eddins stopped the vehicle and a physical altercation ensued in which the alleged victim was struck several times with a closed fist, authorities allege in court documents.
Eddins was arraigned by District Judge Christian Frey on charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment, and was remanded to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
