South Williamsport man who ditched June trial charged with fleeing

Dondre Terrell McMillan, 30, of 203 ½ W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport, who was tried in absentia and found guilty of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, criminal use of a communication facility, aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude officers and criminal mischief following a June 21 trial before Judge William Carlucci, faces new charges after failing to appear for the hearing.
On June 20, McMillan attended jury selection for his trial, which was scheduled to begin the next day, however shortly before 5:30 p.m., he cut off his electronic ankle monitor, court documents said.
Defense attorney Timothy Reitz attempted to contact McMillan on his cell phone at 9:15 a.m. on June 21, from Carlucci’s courtroom, but was unsuccessful.
A voice message heard by police indicated the phone number was no longer in service or had been disconnected, despite Reitz having used it to communicate with McMillan the previous day, authorities said.
The trial moved forward without an appearance from McMillan, resulting in his conviction.
McMillan was subsequently apprehended and committed to the Lycoming County Prison on Sept. 26 and charged with fleeing to avoid apprehension, trial or punishment.
He remains incarcerated in lieu of $50,000 bail.
