Williamsport Bureau of Police investigating vandalism of cars outside a political rally site

The Williamsport Bureau of Police are investigating what appears to be politically-motivated vandalism.

The incident occurred on the east and west side parking lots outside of the Pajama Factory, 1307 Park Ave., early Monday morning, according to Cpl. Jordan Stoltzfus, the lead investigating officer.

The incident was reported at 4 a.m. Monday, hours after the complex finished hosting a Democrat event called “Party for the Vote,” which went from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

A silver Nissan pickup truck was marked with spray paint on the driver and passenger sides, making derogatory remarks about Vice President Kamala Harris.

The front window of the truck was shattered by a cinderblock and a car’s rear window was smashed out.

The interior of the truck was smoldering, indicating someone tried to light it up, according to the police report.

Political signs supporting the Harris-Walz campaign were on the ground near the entrance to the Community Center, where the political event was held.

Police said they are looking for leads. Anyone with more information may contact them at 570-327-7560.

Anyone committing violence, threats and acts of terrorism during this election and post-election will be prosecuted, state Attorney General Michelle Henry said in a letter.

“Regardless of the 2024 election outcome, we condemn any and all acts of violence related to its results,” Henry said.

Her statement joins other attorneys general across the nation.

“Violence has no place in our democratic process. We will enforce the law against any acts that threaten our communities and democracy,” Henry said.
