New charges filed against Montoursville area man with lengthy arrest record

Motorist Mandon Watts, 20, of 153 Confair Parkway, Fairfield Township, faces more legal problems after taking city police on a high-speed pursuit along West Fourth Street in the city’s Newberry neighborhood while impaired around 8 p.m. on Jan. 24, it was alleged in an affidavit.

Driving a BMW 550, Watts fled on Antlers Lane at a high rate of speed after an officer shone a light on his parked car, the court document stated. The officer said had to travel close to 100 mph to catch up with him on West Fourth Street.

During the pursuit, the officer saw Watts’ car kick up “a cloud of dust,” the affidavit stated. The pursuit only ended when Watts turned off Wahoo Drive and turned off his headlights in an unsuccessful attempt not to be seen by the officer.

There was a strong burnt odor of marijuana coming from the BMW as well as Watts himself, police said. At the time, Watts was “out on intense supervised bail,” police said. He refused to submit a blood test, police said, adding that he was arrested for DUI in 2021 and has two prior incidents in which he was charged with evading authorities.

Automatically incarcerated that night for violating his bail, Watts was arraigned the next day before District Judge Aaron Biichle on a felony charge of flight to avoid apprehension plus DUI and three summary offenses. He was recommitted in lieu of $125,000 bail.

Watts was arrested by state police in August 2022 after allegedly firing five shots at a group of teens in Resurrection Cemetery on Lycoming Mall Drive in Fairfield Township. No one was injured. In June 2023, Watts was charged by state police with firearm violations after allegedly ordering an illegal “Glock switch” be sent to his house. Authorities intercepted the package before Watts could get his hands on it, police said.
