Newberry mother jailed on assault-related charges

Amy Kimberly Esposito, 32, of 1118 Dewey Ave., has been arrested and jailed on charges of striking her 8-year-old daughter in the head with a power surge protector in the family’s apartment about 9:15 p.m. on Jan. 31, city police alleged in the affidavit. The court document stated that at the time, Esposito was “intoxicated,” and based on her behavoir, it was alleged that she was “under the influence of drugs and alcohol.” Following her arraignment before District Judge Denise Dieter on a felony charge of endangering the welfare of a child plus simple assault and disorderly conduct, Esposito was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail. In May 2024, she was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia by city police, who were dispatched to her house to check on the welfare of a child, according to court records. As soon as the front door was open, an officer smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana, according to court records.
