Marvin Andre Smith Jr., 39, of 643 Elmira St., has been charged with misdemeanor shoplifting after he was caught trying to steal $24 worth merchandise from Sheetz, 105 Maynard St., on Jan.15, city police alleged in a criminal complaint. He has since waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Christian Frey and is free on $5,000 bail. Smith, arrested by Lycoming Regional police on Feb. 8 on charges of strangulation as well as simple assault and harassment for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend in a motel room on Lycoming Creek Road in Old Lycoming Township, is also free on $25,000 bail in this case and has waived these charges to court as well.
