Assault, child endangerment among charges faced in several cases

Fugitive found hiding on second floor in city home
When accused drug dealer Samual Harris failed to appear for jury selection in mid-January for his anticipated trial, a bench warrant was issued for the 40-year-old city man by the Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office. Responding to a tip that he was hiding inside his Newberry neighborhood home at 1217 Race St. about 9:40 a.m. on March 3, city police and other law enforcement officers surrounded the house and ordered Harris to come out, but he refused, according to an affidavit. “Harris was ultimately found hiding with his body curled into a small ball between a dresser, wall and mirror,” the court document stated. Charged with felony flight to avoid apprehension, Harris, already out on high bail on drug and firearm charges, was held for court following his preliminary hearing Tuesday before District Judge Christian Frey. He remains jailed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
City woman charged with resisting arrest
Sarah Rose Desmond, 42, of 1006 Vine Ave., apartment 2B, will face further court action on several city police charges following a disturbance that began inside Puffs Express, 1151 W. Fourth St., where she is alleged to have punched an employee twice and thrown merchandise around inside the store on Oct. 16, according to a criminal complaint filed at Frey’s office. When an officer attempted to take her into custody minutes later just east of the business, she put up a struggle, it was stated in an affidavit. Referring to the Russian President Vladirmir Putin as her “Daddy,” Desmond made several bizarre statements, saying she did what she did in Puffs because political leaders told her to do it. Charged with resisting arrest, simple assault, disorderly conduct and open lewdness, Desmond remains free on $5,000 bail.
Parents of three children face child endangerment charges
When city police and a caseworker with the county’s Children and Youth Department entered the home of Kwane Hall, 29, and Dominique Scott, 28, at 1631 Catherine St. about 10 a.m. Tuesday, they found “deplorable conditions with food, garbage and dirty dishes throughout the apartment,” according to an affidavit. Authorities had been dispatched to the neighborhood after the couple’s 4-year-old son was discovered “wandering unattended in the middle of the street” with no shoes or socks and shirtless, the court document stated. Scott and Hall were found sleeping on a couch in the living room, unaware that their son was missing, police said. The couple’s two daughters, ages 7 and 8, were not in school, but were upstairs sleeping, police added. Just like the first floor, conditions on the second floor were not fit to live in, the affidavit stated.
The city’s Codes Department also responded to the scene. While the children were last reported to be left in the protective custody of Children and Youth, Hall and Scott were each arraigned before District Judge Aaron Biichle on three counts of endangering the welfare of children and one count of recklessly endangering another person. Both were released on $25,000 bail each.
Man jailed on burglary-related charges
Jeremiah Weed, 38, of 1252 Route 239, Unityville, has been jailed on felony charges of burglary and criminal trespassing after he illegally entered the basement of a home in the 100 block of Keller Hollow Road in Jordan Township about 9 a.m. on March 22, state police alleged in a criminal complaint. Police said Weed was only in the house briefly before he excited the property. Taken into custody not far from the scene, Weed was arraigned a short time later before District Judge Kirsten Garder and jailed in lieu of $35,000 bail. He was held for court following his recent preliminary hearing.
Jersey Shore man charged with allegedly assaulting woman
Upset that he could not find his vape inside a Park Street home on the morning of April 3, Shawn M. Stover began to express his rage and attack a woman inside the house by punching her in the face, city police alleged in a court document. To get away from him, the woman went outside and sat on her front steps, where a passerby saw her and called 911 after seeing the extent of her injuries, police said. “Her forehead was swollen, her right eye was bloodshot and there were red marks on the sides of her neck,” an officer wrote in an affidavit. Stover, 42, of 5 Railroad St., Jersey Shore, was taken into custody and arraigned hours later before Frey on charges of strangulation, simple assault and harassment. Initially jailed, he has since been released on $5,000 bail. He waived his preliminary hearing on Tuesday.
Loyalsock Township man faces felony charge
Shawn Preston Rupert, 35, of 1654 Randall Circle, has been charged with one felony count of submitting false information on a government form in an attempt to buy a firearm and a misdemeanor charge of making unsworn falsification to authorities after he submitted documents with inaccurate data to the Blued Barrel Gun Shop, 230 N. Railroad St., Hughesville, on Nov. 1, borough police alleged in a court document. Arraigned before District Judge Kirsten Gardner, Rupert has since waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $15,000 bail.
